The BPSK is the modulation used in Ethernet. But it's not a BPSK with sine
wave, but with square wave.

Yes the transmitter gets the signal from a cable and converts it to digital
levels before the LED.

The type of drive is obvious from the TX schematic. It's a bunch of 74HC gates wired in
parallel, feeding the LED over a resistor. The Nebulus TX has a different drive
mechanism.
