They claim there is an alternative to AutoCAD called Archimedes. Has anyone tried that out?

I tried it today, but it is not a complete program. It even can't save 
or export your drawing yet...
QCad is much more better and complete...

Unless the tolerance is explicitly specified in the partlist, it's the worst tolerance available on the market. Do not use different nominal value however, like 1k instead of 1.2k etc.
