I must warn you, that PonyProg is big piece of a Crap.
I have some chips with serial programming disabled, by incorrectly written
fuse (device configuration) bits. There is no way to reuse the chips without
having a parallel high voltage programer.

But if you want to use C language, switch to AVR, they have better harware
support (IIRC PIC18xx also do, but there is no PIC target in gcc).
