2. Need equally fast photodiode and 74xx ics
3. faster ne592 alternate as it only works at 10nS
4. we might be able to use the bf908 since it supports upto 1 GHz.

Yeah you are right, there have been discussions in the past, people have discussed lasers etc even FPGA. I thought if we would enumerate the problems and the changes required, it would be easy for people to start making changes to the design. Different people could work at different problems and then could combine the solution, very much like growth of the Linux kernel, in the true spirit of open source.
