Hey Saad,

You can never completely trust used parts. Best you could do is buy a
lot of extras and then test each of them before using them. Since they
are next to impossible to find, I'm open to using any I can find.

Regards the IR diode, someone else more knowledgeable than me will reply

  Any idea from where they might have extracted those? And would they
