[Ronja] query about schematics

hi there every one!!
  Just couldn't wait to mail on this list! I've been looking at your Ronja project and i think that it is absolutely amazing....
  And the good news is that i've also been able to convince my professor to allow me to build one as part of my final year project!!
  This would be the first project of an optical link in our country (Pakistan) made by students..
  Now the thing is that while going through the schematics at http://ronja.twibright.com/  i came across a few things i didn't understand...
                   There are circuits, given by the name of HERTZ, AUI FORTE, SNIFFER, PSYCHELECTRIC, etc.... what do these do? Because from what i understand, all that the system consists of a RX,TX, and data interface (Twister)!!
                   Of all the models given on your site, which one would be easier to build in terms of finding parts, testing,etc
                  And finally can you tell me in advance, the part that is usually the hardest to find so that i may start searching for it well in advance.
